Brian Tracy’s explanation on time management is "a vehicle that can carry you from wherever you are to wherever you want to go."
Anthony Robbins said "once you have mastered time, you will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year, and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade!"
The natural inclination of all sentient beings is to survive and win, first and foremost.
Think about it. Of all the millions of sperm that could have made it into your mother's egg, YOU were the one. You've been a success from day one! From before you were even conceived, you were fighting for your life to survive and to win.
And this internal, innate compulsion to survive and win continues well beyond survival.
Why is that? What's the real/root reason we want a new house, new car, new relationship, etc.?
This may sound like a 5-year old incessantly asking 'why,' but follow me on this.
Example #1:
So you want to make more money?
Yes.
Why?
To buy a bigger house.
Why do you want a bigger house?
Because I want to live in a better/safer neighborhood.
Why?
So my family will be safer.
Why is that important to you?
Because my wife will be happy.
Why is it important that your wife be happy?
Because when she's happy, I'm happy!
So the bottom line is, you want to make more money so you will be happier. Is that about right?
Yes, that's right.
Example #2:
So you want to buy a new car?
Yes.
Why?
Because my car is getting old and I need a reliable car.
Why do you need a reliable car?
So I can get to and from work reliably.
Why is that important to you?
So I don't lose my job?
Why is that important to you?
Because I need the money.
Why do you need the money?
So I won't be homeless.
Why is that important?
Because I like having my own place and providing for my family.
Why is that important to you?
Because it makes me happy.
I could go on and on. EVERYTHING we do is because we have an innate, biological, pre-programmed, evolutionary drive/compulsion to be happy.
You don't want more money, a new house, a new car, a new relationship, etc. You want those things because you believe they will make you happy. Not that there's anything wrong with wanting new/nice things.
But wouldn't it be awesome to figure out how to experience more unconditional/sustainable happiness so you could 'happily achieve,' whether you got those things or not? Stay tuned…
